How to Root LG Nexus 4 E960 On Android Jelly Bean 4.2/4.2.1 Using Nexus 4 Toolkit

In this post we will explain how to root  LG Nexus 4 E960 On Android Jelly Bean 4.2/4.2.1 Using Nexus 4 Toolkit. Even though it is a very simple tutorial, you will have to download a Nexus 4 toolkit first. The toolkit can be found on the following link:

Download Google Nexus 4 ToolKit v2.0.0.exe

Once you have done that, you can take your USB cable for your Nexus 4 and connect it with your computer. Then find the Nexus 4 toolkit, double click and open it. Read what it says, choose where you wish to install the program and keep clicking next until the installation is done. You should see the Nexus 4 screen and message asking you if you wanted to see if there are any new updates. Simply click “No”.

You will then be asked to select your device version and build. For this example, Android 4.2., we will enter “1”.You should see the main menu with lots of options – available toolkit actions and information on what they do. Now click on number one – “Install/uninstall Google Nexus 4 Drivers on your PC” and then press enter. Then choose what your OS is and press the number next to it, and then enter again. Then choose “Install drivers to your PC” and after the installation is finished, press any key to return to the main menu.

When you’re back in the main menu, press number 8 – “1-CLICK FOR ALL“, and then choose the option under number 2 – “Superuser 0.98 by Chainfire“. After that, you will be asked which type of custom recovery you would like to install. You should choose 1 – “Clockworkmod Touch Recovery” and then hit enter.

Now take your Nexus 4 and put it in Fastboot mode. You can do this by switching off your phone and then pressing both volume buttons and the power button at the same time. The Nexus 4 toolkit offers you to backup your data, which we would also advise you to do before rooting your phone since the procedure will erase all the data stored on your device. Type “Yes” in the program and hit enter. Look at your phone, read what it says and click on “Yes” (choose between the available options with the side power key). All the information will show on the bottom and your device will reboot.

When the rebooting is done you can just go ahead and go through the setup process again and finish. You’ll see that you device is fully wiped.

While you are still working on your phone, go to settings and then choose “About phone“. Find the phone’s Build number on the bottom of the screen and tap on it a couple of times until it says “You are now 4 steps away from being a developer”. With every tap on the Build number you will be one step closer to being a developer.

After you have become developer, go back and enter “Developer options” in your phone’s menu and make sure that you turn on USB Debugging. Click OK to allow USB Debugging. Nexus toolkit will continue with its work and your device will reboot again. After it has finished, press unlock and wait a couple of seconds while your device reboots once more and flashes Custom Recovery. After all of that, you will be able to see the message “Android is upgrading” on your phone after which you should have SuperSU on your device.

Now the process of rooting your Nexus 4 is finally complete and you should be able to properly install Custom ROMs and many other benefits.
